???? A Daughter’s Revenge EPISODE TWELVE:
After the vigil, the pastor and his wife called me to find out what the problem was with me. I narrated my ordeal to them. As a matter of fact, I left no stone unturned while telling them my story. They had a pity on me. Even, they shedded tears while listening to me.
After all was said and done, they promised to help. I followed them home that morning.
They gave me shelter over my head. They treated me well. In fact, I felt at home with them.
A MONTH LATER:
I finally met Mrs Ifeoma.
Aunty Annabel, the pastorโs wife, had told me a lot about Ifeoma. She was her very good friend. And also a widow. Not just a widow, Ifeoma just lost her only child to the wรฎรงkรจd hand of dรจร th. So she needed someone with her because the house was very lonely to her. I have spoken with Ifeoma on the phone several times. And I must confess, our spirits accepted each other very well. Because even without us meeting, we became fond of each other.
Mrs Ifeomaโs late husband had a house around Cement, Ikeja, Lagos. A storey building of five units of two bedroom flat and a three bedroom apartment. She was the one occupying the three bedroom flat while tenants occupied the rest of two bedroom apartments.
I lived with Aunty Ifeoma in peace and harmony. Many thought I was her younger sister. But the fact was that my age was nowhere close to that of Ifeoma. Just that nature cheated her so much. She was in her late forties. But she had this smaller stature that was confusing people to the extent that some mistook me for her elder sister.
Aunty Ifeoma had a very big pharmacy in front of her house. The house was situated at the heart of Cement. A very busy area in the vicinity.
As much as I lived comfortable with Aunty Ifeoma, I still had this burning desire in me to have a source of income. I needed something that could fetch me money. It was a dream, but a dream I was determined to turn into reality.
One night, I had a discussion with Aunty Ifeoma about my desire to get a job. Even if it was a sales girl job, I would make due with it. And as God may have it, she saw reason with me. She gave me her blessings and promised to help out in finding a job for me.
In Linda I had a very good friend. She was a friend I made in the area. She was indeed a true friend. I have talked to Linda to help me with a job and she promised to let me know if any vacancy comes up. She was into a salesgirl job in the computer village, Ikeja.
Weeks later, Linda informed me of a vacancy that came out.
The following day, I followed Linda to her place of work. She introduced me to the wife of the shop owner who happened to be her good friend.
Meanwhile Linda has marketed me so well to the woman and even to her husband. Even without seeing me, they have already given me the job. So the application letter I submitted was just to fulfill all righteousness.
Aunty Ifeoma stood for me as a guarantor. She did that wholeheartedly without any fear or doubt. Because she trusted and believed so much in me that I wouldnโt bring shame to her.
Mr Mba, my Oga, dealed in all kinds of laptops and accessories. He has a very big shop in the computer village. He was a very wealthy man.
Learning the business was not an easy thing to do but thankfully I was a fast learner. Besides, every item has its price and specifications tagged on it. So it made transactions so easy for me.
However, Oga Mba was always available in the shop. Even the wife always came to the shop but she always came late due to her children. So they helped me in learning the nitty-gritties of the business.
Within a short period of time, I mastered the business as if I have been into it for years. The fastness of the whole thing came as a big surprise to everybody in the market. Oga Mba said that so far in his decades into the business, that he has never come across any fast learner like me. Even his colleagues and wife agreed to that. They fondly called me a supercomputer in the market.
Business was thriving very well. Oga Mba has trusted me so much that he now left his business under my care with a rest of mind. And I never for one day disappointed him.
Not until one day, I did something that I never believed I would have ever done in my life. I donโt even know what came over me. How it happened, I cannot explain. But it was something I was never proud of doing. And the unfortunate happened when my boss traveled to the village with his family for a burial.
Every now and then, amid tears, I prayed to God that Oga Mba would find a place in his heart to forgive and still retain me. Because the gravity of my offense was capable of not only costing me my job, but it can also land me into the police custody.
