???? A Daughter’s Revenge EPISODE TWENTY:
He called back but I refused to pick his calls. It was on his third attempt that I finally picked.
โWhosoever is this, I am going to block you if you refuse to introduce yourself,โ I sounded the warning.
โMartha, itโs me, Chief Emma,โ he introduced himself.
โWhich of the Chief Emma?โ, I asked.
โChief Emma from the computer villageโ, he added.
โOh, Oga Emma, good afternoon,โ I greeted.
โWhatโs good about this afternoon?. So you donโt have my number on your phone again?โ, he asked.
โI donโt have any business with you. So why are mine keeping your number?,โ I ร รฑgrรฎลy asked .
โYou donโt have any business with me, eh? Martha, I paid you a huge mรดรฑรจy for a service and you failed to render that service to me. And you have the ordercity to ask me if you have any business with me. Are you stรปpรฎd?..โ
โOga Emma, enough is enoughโ, I had to cut in. โLook, I have respected you enough. If you can not respect your old age, then I will make sure I disgrace you. I promise you, anytime you disturb me again about this issue, the whole world will hear us and be our judge as well. And I will make sure that my boss and your wife will hear the whole thing..,โ I yรจลลรจd.
โOh, is that all you have to say?โ, he asked.
โTry me and see what I am upto. Is it because I am keeping quiet and you want to take my quietness for cowardness? โ, I added in ร รฑgรจr.
โWait, are you now threatening me on top of my mรดรฑรจy?โ, he asked.
โItโs not a thrรจร t. I am just letting you know what I will do. Just try any รฑรดรฑsรจnsรจ again and see it happening. Even if it will cost me my job I wouldnโt mind sacrificing my job to expose and disgrace you in that market,โ I concluded.
And I hung up the call immediately. At first, I thought of blocking him but on a second thought, I had a change of mind to know whether he succumbed to my thrรจร t or not. And he didnโt call back again unlike him. That means he succumbed.
I was very happy for a mission well accomplished. I really heaped praises upon myself that day for the courage I displayed.
But of the truth, my thrรจร t to Oga Emma was not an empty thrรจร t. I have made up my mind to let the cat out from the bag because he was a real thorn to my flesh. Even if it would cost me my job, I have no problem with that.
From that day henceforth, Oga Emma stopped talking to me. Even if I greet him, he wouldnโt answer me.
That was how I became free from his torments.
A YEAR LATER:
I have saved a little. A little enough to start my education.
I have informed Aunty Ifeoma my intention to further my education. I had this discussion with her a very long time ago. And she supported it. You need to see how happy she was that I had such an intention. In fact, she promised to support me on that and wanted me to start the process immediately.
But I was actually the one that delayed the whole thing. Because I donโt want to add to her already too heavy a burden. She has done enough for me already. Last time, she spent a lot just to make sure I wrote my WAEC which I did and came out with flying colors. So I would be very inconsiderate adding the higher institution’s heavy burden upon her again having seen the difficulties she was passing through just to cater for her family, especially her sick parents who were bedridden as a result of sickness. Even her mother-in-law, she was also the one catering for her because her late husband happened to be the only child of the old widow.
So all I wanted to do was to save enough that would take me a long way. I donโt want to be a burden to anybody.
Secondly, my intention was to attend a weekend session. So that I would still be working and as well going to school. But all I needed was an understanding boss who would forfeit Saturdays for my education.
I donโt know if Oga Mba would grant me such. I was very skeptical about it because Saturdays happened to be the busiest days in the market. Though I have not spoken with him about it yet. Because I was still summoning the courage to go talk to him about it.
As such, I have to pray and fast about the whole thing. Itโs not a joke. I seriously prayed and fasted for three good days for God to let our minds align together.
It was even Aunty Ifeoma that encouraged me to go speak with my boss and his wife about it when she noticed how afraid I was to do so. I had to plead with her to go with me. And she agreed to do so.
She also placed the call across to my boss to have an appointment with him.
โ..Oga Emma o, thereโs something I want us to talk about,โ my Aunty was telling him on the phone.
โWhat is the problem? I hope all is well? โ, he curiously asked.
โAll is very much well,โ Aunty Ifeoma added.
โPlease, is it not what we can talk on the phone?โ, he asked with curiosity.
โNo. I want us to see face to face and talk about itโ, my Aunty insisted.
The discussion continued.
At the end, the appointment was scheduled to be on a Sunday in his house.
Meanwhile our relationship with Oga Mba and his family was beyond that of a business relationship. We have become family friends. Our relationships were some of the strongest, most important relationships we have in our lives. In fact, we ran to each other for support, love, and acceptance in one way or the other.
On that appointed Sunday, we left home on time to Oga Mbaโs house to meet up with time.
To Be Continued..
Watch out for the next episode to find out what happened.
