???? A Daughter’s Revenge EPISODE TWENTY TWO:
Moments later, we managed to escape from the traffic. But the sight of the scene of the àćčident was not a joy to behold. As I saw the dèàd bôdîès as fresh as the living. The scene was dèstrôyèd by błôôd spilage.
The journey continued. But I was totally lost in thought, contemplating from the accident, to the predicament of Aunty Lorita and what the outcome of our meeting would be.
To the extent I didn’t even know when the guys I sat with on the same seat came down. It was the driver and my co-passengers that brought me from the land of thought back to reality.
‘What’s the problem?,’I was asking amid deep confusion. All eyes were on me.
Everybody burst into laughter as a result of my reaction.
‘Young lady, please check your pocket very well. I was watching from the front mirror what was happening at the back. I smell something fishy’, he said.
I quickly searched myself thoroughly but my phone was nowhere to be found. It has disappeared into thin air. Not just that, even the little môñèy I had with me, all gone.
I started crying and screaming on top of my voice. People couldn’t help but to sympathize with me. They consoled me to stop crying.
How could I be so careless not to have noticed that those guys were pickpockets. How could I be so less attentive not to have noticed when they took my phone. And I suspected them especially when they were pressing me so hard on that seat but my state of mind couldn’t allow me to concentrate.
Tell me now, where would I get môñèy
to buy another phone? Because that phone was a birthday gift. It was Oga Mba’s wife that surprised me with the phone on my birthday.
‘My daughter, stop crying. It has happened. So even if you cry a river, it wouldn’t bring back the phone’, Aunty Ifeoma was consoling me inside the tricycle we were on while heading to Oga Mba’s house inside Ikeja.
‘Aunty, what will I do now? Where will I see môñèy to get another phone?,’ I cried out.
‘Don’t worry. God knows the best. The God who keeps away flies from the tailless cow will definitely surprise you’, she encouraged me.
‘Okay’, I nodded.
‘I hope your ATM card is not among the things they stôłè?’, she asked.
‘Hmmm’, I was contemplating while searching my pocket. ‘I don’t think I came out with it. It seems like I left the ATM card at home’, I concluded unconvincingly.
‘Are you sure?’.
‘I think so’.
We finally got to Oga Mba’s house. We were very much welcomed despite our lateness. But my Aunty tender her reserved apology and the apology was well accepted.
Aunty Ifeoma tabled to Oga Mba the płîght of her sister, Aunty Lorita. She left no stone unturned while narrating the whole thing and even how she involved the police. Oga Mba got provoked and expressed his keen interest in the case.
Meanwhile, my unfortunate incident was the first topic of discussion. Even without me telling them anything, they noticed that all was not well with me because my eyes were severely swollen up. The wife was first to observe it before alerting her husband. They demanded to know what the problem with me was. As I opened my mouth to explain, a stream of tears rolled down from my eyes. In fact, I couldn’t control the cry despite how hard I tried to do so.
Having heard my plight, they felt pity on me. I was jointly consoled like a baby. Even my boss’s children sympathized with me. Amidst of the condolence, my boss promised to buy me a phone tomorrow. I was very happy.
Halfway, food came. We had a joyous family dinner that day.
After the dinner, there came the main issue that brought us. In fact, Aunty Ifeoma carefully picked her words while tabling the whole thing to the listening of everybody. Her words were more of pleadings.
As God may have it, Oga Mba and his wife accepted our pleas wholeheartedly. They were very much impressed with me. In fact, they vowed to support me in whatever way they could. You really need to see how happy they were hearing that I had such intentions despite my background.
It was a very fruitful meeting we had that Sunday.
We left Oga Mba’s house very late that day. But the whole time we spent was worthwhile.
The journey back home was a success despite the little and provocative traffic that held us on the road. But we arrived home safe and sound.
MONDAY MORNING:
Meanwhile on the eve of Monday, you really need to see how I nearly pulled down the gate of heaven with prayer. Do you know what I was praying for? For my phone. I casted and bind any power that would make Oga Mba not to fulfill the promise of a phone he made to me.
That day I went to work with much expectation and high hopes of coming home with a phone. As for me, whether brand new or fairly used, I would be okay with it. As a begger has no choice.
Fortunately, Oga Mba surprised me with a brand new phone. He fulfilled his promise even beyond expectations. Because I wasn’t expecting such a big phone from him. I appreciated them so much because he presented the gift to me in the presence of his wife.
I went home that day with much joy. In fact, my joy knows no bounds.
Meanwhile, expectation and joy didn’t allow me to check whether I left my ATM at home that Sunday or it was among the things the pickpockets stôłè from me.
It was on Tuesday that I remembered to check for the ATM card. But unfortunately, I couldn’t see it where I used to keep it. In fact, I turned the whole house upside down but to no avail. It was then it dawned on me that it was among the things stöłéñ from me.
I had to visit the bank the following day to block the ATM and as well to know if my hard-earned môñèy was safe.
But guess what..
Watch out for the next episode to know how it happened.
To Be Continued.
