It was as if Martha’s world had been crushed down. Martha was pained so much watching her relationship with Mr. Mba deteriorated so much all because of the unwanted pregnancy. A relationship that took her years to build was at the cause of breaking down as a result of her single mistake.

Even Martha’s business was affected so much because the business lacked the maximum attention it required. Although no matter how serious the elephant may purge, it’s look can never be like that of a goat. Yes! Because despite the fact that Martha’s condition had affected her business badly, that doesn’t mean her business had gone down drastically like that of KC. No!

Meanwhile, Alhaji Adamu had stopped sending goods down to Nigeria from Europe to Martha as a result of what he perceived as unseriousness. Although he was still ready and eager to start business with Martha again whenever she showed interest and seriousness again. So the ball was left in Martha’s court to rekindle and rejuvenate their business relationship.

The negative effect of the unwanted pregnancy had crushed Martha down. To the extent she had no zeal again for her business. She doesn’t come out to the shop anymore as she was very much ashamed of what people would say about her unwanted pregnancy which has become visible even to the blind.

Martha was chubby, so she had a stomach. By merely looking at her pregnancy of four months, one would think she was due to deliver. So she was very much ashamed of coming outside with such a heavy stomach. All she did was to lock herself up in the house so as to keep herself away from people’s sight.

Meanwhile, Martha had moved in with KC in his apartment. She did so to hide her pregnancy from their tenants so that the news would not get across to Aunty Ifeoma. Because Aunty Ifeoma was in contact with most of her tenants.

Martha was the one bearing the financial weight of their living in that house. As KC had nothing again. In fact, he had locked his shop up for a long time now. As shame couldn’t allow him to go inside the computer village again. He has done everything to his possible best to gain access into Martha’s shop or packing store but Martha has refused to give him keys to neither of her shop nor to her packing store despite how royal he has become to her.

When a hand dips one of its fingers in red oil, the rest of the fingers would definitely be stained with the oil too. That’s to say, if Martha hits the ground running in her business today, KC’s dead business would definitely resurrect back.

As such, Kelechi was doing everything to his possible best to ease Martha the shackles of which the unwanted pregnancy had brought upon her. He focused so much on persuading her to swallow the shame and return back to her business as usual.

KC had done his best but it was as if his best was not good enough. So he had to involve people to come talk to Martha against staying in the house while her goods in the shop and packing store were rotting in the dust.

One fateful morning, KC and Martha were woken by the persistent knock on the door. KC went and opened the door for the visitor. The visitor happened to be Amaka.

Meanwhile, KC has earlier gone to Amaka to plead with her to come talk to Martha against her indoor life. So she had come that fateful Sunday morning to talk sense into her.

Moments later, KC took his bath and left the house for them.

After all said and done, Amaka delved into the purpose of her coming.

‘…Martha, I don’t see any reason why you should lock yourself inside the house..for what? Look, pregnancy is not a curse. Pregnancy Is not a death sentence. Pregnancy is not sickness. It’s a gift from God. And you should be happy that the man who impregnated you has not run away. That he accepted the pregnancy,’ she paused. ‘Look at your shop, you have locked it up for a very long time now. Tell me for what reason? You want the goods inside that shop to be damaged by dust or what?..’

‘I am totally ashamed of myself. After the whole shakara, I ended up with an unwanted pregnancy. Babe, check it out na. What will people say? Wouldn’t they make caricatures of me inside that market?..’, Martha remarked.

‘Babe, please stop it. Meaning what? Everybody knows who you are pregnant for. And KC is not a child. He is man enough. So what are you talking about?,’ she sighed. ‘ Okay, if you continue this way, tell me, how long do you want to keep hiding? For eternity, eh?,’ she paused. ‘Please, I want to see you inside the market come this Monday. Please come back to the market. Come and open your shop. Your customers have been asking about you. Many have even tried reaching you via the phone but you switched off the phone…’

‘I had to change my line because the calls were too much,’ Martha interrupted.

‘Please, are you promising me that you are coming to shop on Monday?,’ Amaka demanded assurance from Martha.

Long silence.

As Martha contemplated the possibility. She buried her head in thought.

‘Babe, please, you can do this..’, Amaka encouraged her.

‘Are you sure I can?,’ Martha had to ask so as to be sure of her capability.

‘Yes, you can. After all, who knows if KC had paid your bride price or not. So forget, there’s no big deal here..’, Amaka added.

Silent again.

Moments later, Martha heaved a long breath, then broke the silence: ‘Babe, let’s see how tomorrow will be’, she said, full of uncertainty.

‘Okay. Though I am coming tomorrow so we will go together,’ Amaka added.

Their discussion continued.

Meanwhile, the news of Martha’s pregnancy had already hit computer village like a wildfire. Many were surprised to hear that while many were very much disappointed Martha had to end up with KC. Many mouths talked. But what left people in total confusion was whether KC had paid Martha’s bride price or not. That was the inquiry people kept making but nobody was in a position to dish out an answer to that.

       ~~ MONDAY MORNING~~

Amaka was the person that woke KC and Martha up from sleep that fateful morning.

She had to wait for Martha to prepare before going to the shop with her.

In fact, the market erupted with joy upon seeing Martha back to business again.

All thanks to Amaka who made that possible.

Martha’s customers rejoiced seeing her back to her feet again. Because they have missed her so much.

Although it wasn’t an easy course. But Martha continued pushing harder with her business despite how difficult it was. Thank goodness Amaka was there to support her both physically and emotionally.

Meanwhile, Martha had rekindled her business relationship with Alhaji Adamu. And Alhaji had resumed his business transaction with Martha.

Martha had also wiped away KC’s shame inside the market. As she had cleared all his debts and revived back his dead business. In fact, KC has bounced back again in the business.

Kelechi had started doing very well again in the business as fortune had started smiling at him again.

In fact, the whole thing had turned into a bed of roses for them again.

‘..things are going well for us,’ she sighed. ‘Is not as if I am forcing myself into him. But I don’t understand him. I don’t know his plans for us. I don’t know how serious he is about us,’ Martha heaved a deep breath. ‘KC has kept me into the dark. If I ask him what his plan is about us, he will tell me he’s on it. That is the only answer he kept giving me anytime I brought up the topic of him going to pay my bride price. And I don’t want to pressure him so much as to let it not be as if I am desperate for marriage.

What should I do now? How do I approach this issue now with this condition I am into?

Martha contemplated in silence on a fateful lonely Sunday. As KC had gone out to have fun with his friends. The same friends who abandoned him when things turned sour for him.
