???? Blame It On The Pain Episode Seventeen:
(Jackson)
โYou should get rejected more often. It really makes you train better,โ Tyrone says while I slam my fist into the punยขhing bag again.
Itโs been a little over three weeks since Iโve last seen or talked to Alyssa, and true to form, Iโve been taking my frustration out during training.
Ricardoโs lips twitch as he holds the punยขhing bag. โThatโs enough for today, guys. Hit the showers.โ
Iโm about to leave, but I notice movement out of the corner of my eye.
Itโs that snake, Luke waltzing through the gym; appearing to be without a care in the world.
Iโm about to change that real quick.
I hip check him into the wall and enjoy the look of utter shock splashed across his face.
โCan I help you?โ he sputters.
My 6โ3 frame easily towers over him and I relish the way his entire body begins to shake from fear.
I donโt give into my anger very often. I tend to bottle everything up and save it for the fi ghts in the cage, but when I do let my fury escapeโit sure as fk makes one hโll of an impact. โI believe you still owe money to a certain ring girl,โ I snarl.
He puffs up his chest. โWhat are you? Her keeper or something? I donโt owe that girl sht. Not my fault she couldnโt handle the job.โ
I launch my fist into his rib cage. โLast time I checked, id!ot. Being groped against your will wasnโt part of the job description. Youโre supposed to make sure sht like that doesnโt happen to the ring girls.โ
He lets out a big whoosh of air before he collapses against the wall.
I ball my fist again, but he finally reaches into his pocket and pulls out a wad of cash wrapped around a rubber band. โFine, here. This should cover it. But mark my words, Jackson. If you make a habit of attacking me over the girls I hire, instead of focusing on the fights like youโre supposed to- Bruno will be hearing about it.โ
I grab him by the collar. โI really donโt give a fk,โ I sneer before I let him go.
He fixes his collar and glares at me. โYeah, weโll see about that,โ he says before he limps away.
When I turn around Ricardoโs eyes are narrowed into tiny slits and Tyrone is shaking his head profusely.
โLocker room, now,โ Ricardo barks.
Sht.
The thing about Ricardo is, heโs a great coach- and Iโm close enough with him to consider him a friend of sortsโฆbut you never want to piss him off.
Heโs only 5 years older than Tyrone and I, but rumor has it that he has strong ties to Brunoโฆhence why itโs not only his job to train us, but to look after two of his biggest money making fighters.
Itโs Ricardoโs priority to make sure we stay in top physical form as well as stay out of troubleโฆin every kind of form it comes in.
The fact that I just went off on one of Brunoโs menโฆdoesnโt bode well for me.
โWhat the fk was that?โ he snaps when we reach the locker room.
I decide to tell him the truth. โHe let Alyssa get attacked during the fight and didnโt try to stop itโฆand if that wasnโt bad enough he then fired her for causing trouble. He also didnโt pay her.โ
He rubs his chin, appearing to be lost in thought for a moment. โAlyssa. Thatโs the girl in handcuffs you brought home? Correct?โ
I nod. โLook, Jackson. Do yourself a favor and bark up another tree. The only thing that girlโs going to do is get you in a shtload of trouble. Trust me. Youโll be getting into fi ghts out of the ring left and right the longer you hang around her. If Bruno questions me about you going after Luke, Iโll defend you and tell him you were just trying to do the right thing.โ He pauses. โBut you and I both know itโs never a good thing to be on Brunoโs radar. Donโt make a habit out of it.โ
โYeah,โ I agree before he leaves.
