???? For The Love Of Vivian EPISODE TWO: ????
“Why would someone do this to my only child,” Aliyah said tearfully.
Her eyes were now swollen from the excessive crying. They had become red and sunk in deep. Her husband was still in tears, everyone’s effort to console them proved abortive.
I know I would have killed myself if I were in Aliyah’s shoes. I mean; look at the bond between Aliyah and her daughter – unbreakable. Just unbreakable. But that word is limited when it comes to death.
Death doesn’t mind; it gives no warning. It respects no one, death doesn’t consider if you are rich or poor, ugly or beautiful. It just consumes it’s prey in its flaming sting.
Unfortunately, Vivian was the prey this time around.
It was only a matter of minutes before the police arrived the scene. They showed their empathy to the saddened couple and the inspector even claimed it was not the first time such a thing had happened in the area.
He said that a lady was found lying in the bush about two streets away without a head or any genitals. The neighbourhood was stunned to hear about this, apart from mama chidera and her closest friend who was yet to get a child.
The duo had become the minister of information; the typical “aproko women”.
“I feel your pain sir, but you have to wipe your tears and move on with life.” Came the inspector’s voice.
He paused.
“The best we can do now is to make sure justice is served, exactly a week ago a similar occurrence took place just at the next street and we believe your daughter will lead us closer to solving this mystery.”
With such things going on, it was obvious a maniac was in town, and it will only be a matter of time before another body is found lifeless.
The police wanted to examine Vivian, they wanted to use her body to see if they could trace the killer, but Aliyah immediately objected.
“My daughter will not go through any of your experiments, she has suffered enough…” She said, struggling in vain to hold back her tears.
“Madam nothing dey there, na just simple autopsy we wan do.”
“Autopsy? You people must be very stupid!” Desmond interrupted with so much anger in his voice.
“My daughter went missing, I informed you people but you didn’t do anything. Now, she’s dead, all her private parts gone, head gone. And you want to do autopsy? Autopsy for what exactly?” He fired with a look of disdain.
“Have you now become that blind that you can’t see that my only child has been used for rituals?”
“Sir, we are sorry. I didn’t mean it that way. All I want to assure you is that justice will prevail.”
Everyone remained silent, no one responded to the police anymore. It seemed to the neighbourhood that the police was becoming ineffective and it was the girls who now feared for their lives.
Vivian’s corpse was taken to the morgue to be buried in a few days. The couple didn’t want any delay, they wanted to lay their daughter six feet down and forget about her as soon as possible.
The relatives couldn’t handle the shocking news, the person that got hit hard the most was Desmond’s mother. Desmond could hear his mum wailing seriously over the phone as soon as she heard that her only grandchild was dead.
“Jesus, Owelamo! Them done kill my pikin; the only grandpikin wey I get my family people say na that one dey pain them. Chei! I done die.”
“Mama, you need to calm down. Okay? My wife and I are still struggling to recover from the shock.”
“Which wife? How am I not sure it is that witch that has killed my grandchild.”
“Ah ah! Mama don’t say that.”
“Why shouldn’t I say it? Ehnn! After taking forever to give birth to a child, she has now taken away the only grandchild I have. In fact, I am coming right away.”
“Mama, this is too much. You can’t be…”
He was still taking when his mum ended the call.
Desmond was her only son, and she was always against him getting married to Aliyah. Now that her only grandchild was gone, it would take a whole lot for Aliyah to remain in her husband’s house.
There was a loud knock on Aliyah’s residence. A knock of urgency and distress, the person kept on knocking like a landlord about to serve a quit notice.
Aliyah walks up to the door, she opens it. Lo and behold! It is her mother in law.
“Mama good evening, welcome,” she greeted with surprise written all over.
“What is good about the evening and who are you calling mama? Tufia! I can never birth a woman like you. I wonder what my son saw in you.”
Aliyah shrugged, there was no time her mother in law didn’t talk to her like she was trash.
“You can’t even carry my bags,” she said with a hiss.
Aliyah moved to assist her but her mother in law immediately pushed her hand away..
“Don’t worry, I am strong enough to help myself.”
She sank into one of the sofas and took a deep breath.
“They said my grandchild was used for ritual, just pray you don’t have a hand in this if not… you will forever hate me.”
Vivian’s burial
(Buried on her birthday)
It’s hard to say which is more disheartening; the fact that Vivian was used for ritual or her been buried on the day of her birth.
What an irony!
A day that ought to be filled with laughter and joy was turned into a day of gloom and tears. Tears strolled from everyone’s cheek, falling like raindrops unto the sand.
It was a small burial, but the entire neighbourhood was in attendance. Because they all knew that Vivian was an epitome of beauty, an angel among humans.
Aliyah’s eyes were worn out due to the endless tears, she had lost something more than gold.
It was very sad for Aliyah, it was pathetic, it was heart breaking, it was tragic and extremely devastating.
Vivian was gone from her sight but never from her heart. She fell to her knees, before the open coffin with despair all over her face.
Her vision was blurred because of her tears, but suddenly her eyes caught someone.
A huge man in a black hood walking speedily towards her, his face all covered, his hands in his jacket like he was hiding something underneath.
She quaked in terror. He kept coming closer, soon he was just beside her.
“Hey! Who are you?” Asked a voice from behind.
Slowly, he removed his hood and immediately everyone’s jaw dropped.
