๐ธ Picked From The Dustbin:
โShe has given birth. What do we do? She gave birth to a baby boy. She surprised us because she pushed the baby out by herself without any help. Amaka has proven to be very strong. What do we do now? We canโt keep her forever. The baby may die if we leave them in that uncompleted building. What should we do with Amaka and her baby?โ Eleks was on the phone with Princess who was relaxing on the bed. The time is around 9p.m. Chief Egbe was not at home.
โCall my husband and let him know that Amaka has given birth to a baby boy. Ask him to pay another ransom of N25 million. Promise him that you will release Amaka and the child safely after the payment of ransom. But donโt release them after he pays the money. Please, adhere to the instructions.โ Princess said. She was very happy that everything is going as planned.
โItโs okay! I will call him right now.โ Eleks said as he dialed Chiefโs number to break the news to him. When Chief heard the news, he was overjoyed. Despite all that had happened to his businesses, he still had N35 million left in his bank account. The next day, he made urgent arrangements and delivered N25 million cash to the kidnappers. They warned him clearly not to come to the place with police, so he acted all alone.
โWhen are you going to release Amaka and the baby? Please I want to see them as fast as possible. When should I come and pick them up? Please tell me the place let me start coming.โ Chief Egbe tells Eleks on the phone.
โCalm down chief. We are the ones in charge here, not you. We will tell you when Amaka and your child will come home. We take the decision of when to release our captives. You are not in any position to decide for us. Good day chief.โ Eleks said over the phone. Chief was once again heartbroken. He had expected that the kidnappers would pity him and release Amaka and his son because he had done everything they asked him to do. He drove home from the kidnapperโs hideout, feeling so much pain in his heart.
Chief Egbe was gradually going bankrupt. Now, he had only N10 million left in his bank account.
โIt is as if my life is coming to an end. What have I got myself into? This people have emptied my bank account. My businesses have crashed. My friends and partners now treat me with disdain. The whole country has now heard that Iโm a bad man who goes about sleeping with women. Everyone that held me in high esteem in the past now treat me like satan. People despise me like leprosy. Am I the first person on this earth to cheat on his wife? Iโm sure there are men out there who are cheating on their wives to, but why is everyone focusing their attention on me? Is it because I was caught? Why is the world being so unfair and unjust to me?โ The chief asked himself. He had driven into his compound but he was in the car where he was reflecting on the situation that befell him since the past few months.
โGod please intervene. You are my last hope. I know I have failed in many aspects of my life. I have destroyed my marriage and I have violated the sanctity of my matrimonial home. I failed in my duties as a married man. I failed my wife and I have failed you, my creator. God please do not abandon me because you are my last hope. Everyone I know in this world has abandoned me. My reputation has been destroyed and my life is about to end if you fail to intervene. God please do not leave me. Show up for me the way you showed up for Sampson when he was in the prison. Show up for me this one last time and I promise never to go back to being a womanizer. Show up for me and restore my hope. Help me and rescue Amaka and the child from the kidnappers den. At least, let me have something to show for all the suffering I have gone through in the past few months. Please forgive me because Iโm only human and Iโm not infallible. God please show up for me, do not abandon me.โ Chief Egbe prayed. For the first time in many months or years, he prayed sincerely from his heart because of he knew only God could save him from impending disaster.
โIโm waiting for an answer from you God. I need your help. Please forgive me my evil doings and intervene on my behalf.โ The Chief said. He was weeping profusely with his head rested on the steering of his car. Tears were pouring on the floor of the car like rainwater. Suddenly, he heard a knock on the windscreen of the jeep. Chief looked up and saw Amaka standing by the door of the car. He jolted back to life and then wound down the glass. He felt as if he was dreaming, but it was real. Amaka was carrying a baby in her arms. The baby was wrapped in clean blanket. He was shocked beyond words as he quickly opened the car door and jumped down.
โMy goodness! What happened? They had refused to release you when I called them after paying the money. God! Iโm so happy. Please let me see the babyโs face.โ Chief said as soon as he came out of the car. He uncovered the childโs face and thought he looked very handsome. Chief knelt down and lifted his hands up in appreciation to God who had just answered his prayers.
โWhat happened. How did you convince them to release you?โ Chief asked again.
โโItโs a long story, but the kidnappers said they were tired of me and that they did not want the baby to die in their hands.โ Amaka said with a mild smile.
โLet us go inside.โ Chief said after recovering from the initial shock he felt.
โWhat of Princess?โ Amaka asked.
โShe is inside the house.โ Chief responded as they entered the building with the baby.
