???????? Sophia My Love Episode Twenty Six:
Sophia and Jovani were sitting in the hospital waiting room, waiting for their turn to see the doctor some days latwr. They had decided to visit the doctor because even though Jovani had been doing his best, Sophia was growing weaker by the day, and beginning to throw up constantly.
She would ask him to make her a particular meal and when he must have faced all the stress to prepare the meal, because she had insisted that he did the cooking himself, Sophia would only take a spoonful before she starts vomiting again.
So that morning, he didn’t bother to prepare for work, he just needed to see the doctor and be sure his wife wasn’t suffering from something more severe than he had imagined.
They were soon called in to see the doctor. He knew he could easily walk in by just calling his friend to inform him they were interested he hospital, but Jovani wasn’t one who liked breaking protocol just to suit himself. So he waited his turn, and when they were called, he helped his wife up, and walked her into the doctorโs consulting room.
โWelcome Mr. and Mrs. Jovani. What seems to be the problem with your wife? She doesnโt look her usual radiant selfโ doctor Fred asked as soon as he was done berating Jovani for making his wife sit in the long queue, waiting to see him.
โShe hasnโt been well Fred. My wife has simply refused to recover from the sea fever. If I had known it would affect her this adversely, then I would have chosen something else for the honeymoonโ Jovani told Fred, his friend in regret.
โWhy do you think she has โsea feverโ? whatever that is! Why are you so sure itโs not something else?โ Fred asked his friend, allowing his chair to spin, so he could face Sophia and have a better look at her.
โWell, I know my wife, and I know she was healthy before we sailed off. In fact, she only started feeling sick, some days before we berthed hereโ Jovani said, making Fred to chuckle.
“Jovani the sharp shooter! You didn’t even allow her return from the cruise her normal self again” Fred said, making small talks.
โHey Sophia, can you talk to me? How are you feeling? And since when did you start feeling that way?โ he asked her.
Sophia wanted to answer, she wished she could speak, but she had a large amount of spittle in her mouth, so she could only shake her head.
โOh I see! Ptyalism has already set in. Donโt worry, Jovani, before you get my head, Ptyalism is also known as hypersalivation or sialorrhea, and often affects women in the early stages of pregnancy, itโs not harmfulโฆโ Fred was saying but Jovani cut in.
โWait wait wait Fred! You know there are things you shouldnโt joke with. I told you from the onset about what Barry my cousin said concerning my wife, and you even took a look at her before our wedding.
โI think itโs kinda insensitive for you to joke about pregnancy with my wife and I when you know how bร dly itโll hitโ Jovani said, making a face.
Sophia got up and walked over the wash basin in the office to rinse her mouth before she returned to her husbandโs sides.
โYes doctor Fred, I really do not like the joke you just made now. For one, Iโm very sick and worried about my health, and then, youโre making my husband remember that we have some issues with my ability to conceive. That’s really not niceโ Sophia said unhappily.
โWow! Just wow! So you two walk up to me to know whatโs wrong with you, and Iโm giving my diagnosis in my capacity as a doctor, howbeit playfully, and you two want to lecture me now?
โOkay, I apologize. I should have made you pass through the regular routine, get your blood samples for laboratory tests, even when itโs crystal clear that youโre pregnant, before I declare it boldly to you. I’ll do it that way then, and ensure I officially inform you about her condition after the results are out, no jokes, no plays, just the doctor patient thing!โ doctor Fred said, laughing as he scribbled on the test request form in front of him.
The couple werenโt quite happy that he was taking the joke too far, but had no option but to do as he had requested.
They returned to his consultation room some time later with the neatly enveloped result.
Doctor Fred opened the result and looked up at his friend with the โI told you beforeโ kind of expression, before tossing the result to him.
Jovani looked at the short report on the plain sheet, a few lines of words that held so much information. A few words sprawled on the white sheet that was making his head spin with unprecedented excitement, then he passed the paper to his wife.
โOh my God! I canโt believe this! Tell me Iโm not dreaming honey, please tell me I wonโt wake up to find it a mere dreamโ Sophia cried, her hands shaking uncontrollably as she held onto the report.
Doctor Fred allowed Sophia and Jovani share the moment of joy, hugging, crying and singing happily for sometime, before he began to give his warnings.
โCongratulations once again Mr and Mrs Jovani. Iโm so happy that like I told you before, I didnโt see anything culpable or capable of preventing you from getting pregnant.
โIโm glad that you didnโt have to wait for so long to see that I was right about that. But that brings us to the second possibility.
โI explained that childbirth issues in couples could arise either because the woman is unable to conceive for a number of factors we have talked about, or is able to get pregnant, but unable to keep the fetus in uterus, long enough for it to be born in safety.
โFor now, Iโll urge you to be careful, and remain careful. You wonโt be needing anything that can get you overly excited or stressed Sophia.
โPlease Jovani, ensure that her emotional, physical and whatever else needs, are met perfectly and promptly.
โOrdinarily, in pregnancy, the hormones become riotous, doing things in a strange order, but trust me, the extra care you need to give her now, is really worth it, and you will be seeing the results soon.
โCongratulations my friendโ Fred told his friend, shaking hands with him as he walked them to the door.
The couple rushed over to Chief Jonahโs residence to inform him and his wife of the good news. Mrs Jonah was over herself with joy. She kept giving her husband the “I knew it will happen” face as they danced.
Sophia and Jovani could only dance with the Jonahโs for a few minutes before they rushed over to tell Mrs Dike the good news and join her in the celebration dance too. They went home very late that day, because Sophia’s mum had insisted that they spent some time with her, to enable her prepare some special.meals she knew Sophia would need.
Jovani literally be a nanny from that day, nursing his wife with so much care and love, and ensuring he was there for her even before she called for him.
There were times sheโd ask him to get her mango juice, and before he returned with the juice, she had changed her mind about the juice.
On many occasions, sheโd wake him up late in the night, asking him to specially prepare beans fritters, only for her to complain about how badly the food smelled.
On a particular night, she made Jovani shower so late into the night, because according to her, the smell of the fritters she asked for, which she didnโt even eat, was all over her husband.
Jovani could have simply gone into another room to pass the night, since, even after washing his entire body with soap and water, she still kept crying about how he smelled like beans, but he knew sheโd only close her eyes after he made her lie on his chest.
โOrdinarily, in pregnancy, the hormones become riotous, doing things in a strange order, but trust me, the extra care you need to give her now, is really worth it, and you will be seeing the results soonโ Jovani recalled, rolling his eyes in frustrร tion.
He got her feminine perfume, the only toiletry she hadnโt thrown out of their room, and sprayed a handful over his body, before she allowed him sleep that night.
And so, Jovani continued caring and pampering his wife, knowing for the first time in his life, that months donโt run by easily and quickly, but happy as he waited in an anxious anticipation of the arrival of the baby.
