????οΈ The Broken Crayons:
A little boy from a wealthy family had so many old and broken crayons. He soon realised he didn’t need them any longer. So, he told his mother.
“Mum, could you discard all my broken crayons? They’re useless and they make my bedroom look messy”
The mother assented. The following morning, she packed all the broken crayons into a box and threw them out. The next day, she found her son all sulky.
“What’s wrong child?” she asked him.
The little boy replied.
“I no longer like the smell of the air fresheners and fragrance oils in my room. I would like to have all of them trashed, and replaced with better ones”
His mother didn’t have a problem with that. She gathered all the bottles of the fragrances and disposed of them. Then, she bought new scents for her son.
One evening, the mother was driving her son home from the grocery store. As they drove along the road, the boy looked through the car window and he saw something very astounding. He saw a poor boy selling some very colourful candles which he called ‘the heavenly candles’. One of the candles burned very brightly and emitted pleasant scents that filled the air. There was a gathering of people admiring and pricing the unique and expensive candles.
The rich kid stopped his mother.
“Mum, look! Buy for me. They’re really lovely, and I would love to have them in my bedroom. Please, don’t say no”
The mother would do everything to make her son happy. But as they alighted from the car and approached the candle boy, he said.
“I’m sorry ma’am, there are no more left”
The rich boy’s face fell in disappointment. When his mother noticed this, she asked the candle boy.
“Tell me where you bought the special candles, so I can buy for my son?”
The boy responded humbly.
“I didn’t buy them. I made them by myself”
Surprised, she asked.
“But how were you able to make such wonderful candles by yourself”
The boy paused for a moment, then replied.
“I once saw a woman threw away a box of broken crayons, and I took them all. Then the next day, I found some bottles of fragrance oil in the same bin she discarded the crayons. I took them home. I melted all the broken crayons and mixed the wax with some of the fragrance oil. It was with the mixture that I created those wonderful candles”.
Moral: Never look down on anything or anyone no matter what. Never conclude a person by his present condition, because time has the power to change everything. No one is worthless or useless as everyone has their hidden potentials. Just like the broken crayons, the owner already concluded them valueless, however, they turned out to become beautiful candles that everyone admired. Sadly, he didn’t get a chance to own them again.
