???????? The Choice I Made Episode Fifteen:
Godwin arrived at Preye’s compound with some elderly people. They were offered seats. They said what they came for which was to take Victory home. They also insisted on seeing Victory but Preye who locked the door was not ready to come out with Victory.
I’ve heard what you people said about what your missions are. But I want to ask you all a question. You all came here without getting me informed. Do you think we don’t have elders and traditions too or do you think this meeting is what only me will be present for? You all are elders and your son called you all for a gathering like this, you came and saw two women sitting under a tree unprepared without an elderly man around, you people still went ahead to tell me you have come for Victory. Victory who is now the son of the soil. But I’ve heard you. You, people, have to come back at the end of the month so I will inform some of our elders. As you all know elders have to be around.
They all agreed they will be back by month’s end. Preye’s mother informed Preye’s only surviving uncle who has been sick for years but can make it to the meeting and also informed some few elders.
The date they fixed remains sacrosanct. Godwin and his people arrived for the meeting. Preye was also told to be present with her son Victory at the meeting.
Godwin’s people said what they came for since Preye who is the mother of Godwin’s son refuses to marry Godwin.
1st elder speaks: our wife Preye’s mother informed us of this meeting now we are here. As you can see the table is empty. No kola nuts and drink to show there is unity and love in what we all came here for but because we were told you all prepared for war. We are very peaceful people and our town is known for that. We didn’t offer you kola so that anybody who is dying should know where he eats last. let’s go straight to the point.
Second elder: I hope you all are aware we have our traditions just like every other village has theirs before making the request you all are asking for.
The third elder who is Preye’s uncle: This is my house and compound. I’m Preye’s father’s elder brother. Before you all came we asked our daughter Preye some questions. She made it clear to us she will not marry your son Godwin and we heard her story which we all know is the truth because we witnessed everything when she was pregnant of this boy (he said pointing at Victory) now traditionally Victory who you claimed to be your son is no more your son neither is he Preye’s son but Preye mother’s son. Once a lady gives birth in her father’s house and later didn’t marry the man who gets her pregnant the child becomes her mother’s child. Take it to court or anywhere it remains what it is.
What nรณnsense is this weak and sick man talking about? That which child belongs to which people. Is it because I’ve kept quiet all this while or do you think I can’t match you all one after the other and take my son?
Godwin got provoked and stood up and went to Preye to take the boy from her. He and Preye started dragging Victory. Two vehicles drove into the compound everywhere was calm again. It was Ibiso and her two officers that are meant to secure her safety all through her stay in Nigeria. She didn’t understand what the gathering was all about. She walked down to know if all is well.
Oh, I can see you people are having a family meeting. I will be in my car and wait then. Ibiso said.
My daughter you are part of the family now you can sit down we are discussing what concerns Preye. Preye’s mother said.
Welcome Aunty Ibiso. I didn’t know you are coming today. Preye said as she stood and hugged her
Ibiso has not taken a proper look at the people who are present at the gathering she only focused on Preye and her mother but Godwin who has seen her from afar immediately recognized her and started hiding his face.
