???????? The Prince And I Chapter Eleven:
(Slave To The Royals ????)
???? EFUA KELECHI’S POV ????
‘Till Dubem gets back on his feet, I’ll be your bodyguard Prince Lotanna’
Even as I say those words, I feel my heart do a double flip and somehow i know that I have just agreed to a deal that will either maim me or tame me. Either way, I still have to get my revenge on this foul land and if Lotanna wants to willingly make himself my tool. . . then so be it.
“Good then, I will expect you to resume your duties as soon as possible” Lotanna says in reply to me.
I roll my eyes inwardly at the sly smile dancing on his lips, nevertheless I nod at him and walk following Tari to go get my clothes.
“You know that was a crazy thing to do Efua” Tari tells me when we are a distance away from the training ground.
“Which do you mean? My run in with Tega or becoming the bodyguard of your prince?” I ask raising my brow at him.
Tari looks at me and shakes his head. “Are you pretending not to know what I’m talking about?” He says.
I shake my head too and glance down at my wounded palm, the blood is already dried on the big cut. I show it to him. “Do you mean this? Because I do not see anything crazy in earning a slash to prove my point”
Tari chuckles dryly. “Tell me, were you a warrior in Aza?”
I still at the mention of Aza.. Tari notices and stops, taking in my facial expression he immediately understands. “Oh…. I’m sorry for bringing that up, I didn’t know it is a…”
“It’s okay” I cut him off and resume walking. “And to your question.. I wasn’t a warrior in Aza” I add.
“How do you do that?” Tari asks catching up with me.
“Do what?”
“What you just did, turning your emotions on and off like a snap of your fingers”
I laugh, my laughter though coming out sadder than I expected it to be. “When you loose everything you’ve ever had and cherished within a twinkle of an eye just like a snap of your fingers then nothing switching off your emotions will be the easiest thing to do because you have nothing to loose”
“But you can’t say you have nothing to loose” Tari states as we enter a shed.
“What do you think I have to loose then?”
“Yourself? I mean you can’t allow yourself drown in…. What do I call it Noe” he pauses.
I wave my hands. “Forget it Tari and get me my clothes. I look around and see different sort of swords hanging on the wall and in a table at the far corner is a pile of neatly packed clothes.
I draw out a sword and feel the lightness on my hands. ” Do you know out to use that?” Tari asks.
“No. . No but you would teach me” I say.
“If you want that, I’m ready whenever you are, I’m not always on night shift so you could come when you are done with your duties” he replies and hands me a neatly folded pair of cloth. “I think that should size you, of it doesn’t we will take you to the palace seamstress”
I free up the clothe and it is a pair of Ankara short and a big T-shirt. I scoff at the clothing. “Do I get only one?” I ask Tari.
“For now yes, because they are no more of your size yet, but I’d help you get more if that from the seamstress and ..” He looks at my wound. “You have to get that wound treated”
I grab the sword and strap it to my side and clutch the clothe under my arms. “So what do you do as a warrior apart from training and destroying smaller Kingdoms because your Kingdom thinks they ate gods” I ask not hiding the ferociousness in my voice as I say the last part.
Tari looks at me. “You talk as if we follow our own orders Efua… Everything we do is on the order of the king and we have no choice but to obey him else we would be dead meat”
“You did not answer my question” I say ignoring his pathetic attempt to defend himself.
“I guard the outer gates of the Royalie kingdom” he says with a dejected sigh.
I nod. “I see….” I mutter and we walk on in silence.
“So we will see again?” Tari says when we get to my room in the warrior’s quarters.
I smile at him. “Of course” I see him glance down at my palm and I chuckle. “I will treat it don’t worry, go on to your duty post” I say.
“Efua” he calls, I look up at him and I am shocked when I see his eyes clouded with sadness of some sort. What is wrong with him?
Tari steps closer to me and slow pulls me to a hug. I gasp. “I’m not like them” he murmurs into my hair. “You have to believe me”
Even I know he is not like them, but yet again…. I pull away from his grip. “Go on out Tari.. I will see you at night” I say and gently push him outside before closing the door and resting my back on it. Lotanna was right, I have an aversion to feeling guilty, I do not want to but Tari’s explanation and action just now is making me feel like revenge won’t take me anywhere.
I close my eyes and shake the thought away.
. . .
After freshening up and puting on my cloth, I strap my newly found sword to my side and walk outside. Surprisingly Lotanna is waiting outside the quarters and the training ground is empty already.
“What are you doing here?” I ask eyeing him warily.
He smirks at me.. Oh how I hate that mocking smirk of his. “Have you forgotten you are my bodyguard?”
“Of course I do remember but standing here feels like you are stalking me” I hiss.
“I figured you wouldn’t remember the way to my chambers so I made it easier by coming here, don’t I get a thank you?”
“Thank you my foot” I mutter with a scoff.
“Are you done already because your works starts already.. And right now you are accompanying to my betrothed house”
I raise my brow at him. He has a betrothed?
