???? The Woman Who Married A River Prince Episode Four:
Fear gripped me. My heart instantly became filled with thoughts and indecision. Should I marry Frank or should I call off this wedding? If I go ahead with this wedding, what will be my fate? Is Kate not just over exaggerating? How can she see my future now? I became drown in deep thoughts.
I was still thinking when my mother came into the room again.
“Grace what are you still waiting for? Are you ready for your makeup artist? Oh! You are ready!” She asked and still answered herself.
“Please, let’s get going. Time is not anyone’s friend” She said and held my hand, leading the way, out of the room. When she got to the door, she quickly turned back, towards Kate and said to her:
“And you! Don’t you want to get dressed. Get dressed quickly and come out so you can be watching your sister’s back. Not everybody that is coming for this ceremony is coming with a pure heart today, including those bridesmaids in the sittingroom”
“Okay mummy!” Kate responded coldly. I knew she sounded coldly because she was sad that I will soon be getting married to a man she see to be evil in her dream. On one part of my heart, I wanted to push through with the wedding because I love Frank so much and he may turn out to be the opposite of what Kate and I are concluding him to be, based on our dreams while on the other part of my heart, I wanted to call off the wedding, because I was scared that my dreams and Kate’s dream might come to pass. I wanted to call it off so badly but I don’t know how and my mother didn’t allow me to think of how. She just held my hand and led me out of the room to her room, where the makeup artist came and made me up and helped me dress beautifully on my wedding gown.
After I was dressed on my wedding gown and had my makeup all the bridesmaids, my mom, my father and brother complimented my beauty and wished me a merry marriage life. They were all happy for me except for Kate. She didn’t compliment me, nor wished me happiness in my marriage. At the church, Kate was still not happy.
When we went to the reception ground for the proper ceremony, although Kate stayed all through by my side and attended to my need but she was not happy. She kept displaying a cold attitude and displeased facial expression to remind me how displeased she is about my marriage and it got me thinking and worrying that my life after the ceremony would be sorrowful because Kate’s dream and my dream is going to manifest.
At the ceremony ground, when it was time for our both parents to bless us, the Woman that came out as Frank’s mother wasn’t the woman Frank had presented to me some time ago. She was not the same woman I had seen before; and not the same woman I greeted in the morning or saw in the church. She was so different; or is it that she was a human chameleon or it was my eyes and brains that was playing tricks on me. I thought about it for a while but waved it off. The truth will come out later, eventually. I concluded.
When the wedding was over, every invited guess gave their gifts, soon, they started to say goodbye to Frank and I, and began to leave one after the other. My family brought out the gifts they have for me and presented it to Frank and I. Later, they brought out my bags and luggages. When I saw how my brothers dragged out my luggage, It drown on me that I have finally gotten married to Frank and will soon be going home with him. I felt like my family no longer need me in my own father’s house, like they were chasing me away because my brothers brought out everything I have ever owned. My heart became heavy and bitter; Tears clouded in my eyes and I tried to hold it back but couldn’t. So my family is chasing me away? A voice said in me and I began to cry.
Frank’s driver brought his car closer and my brother loaded my bags and luggages in the boot. My mother came and hugged me. “Take care of yourself okay?” She said with a teary voice. My tears began to flow the more; I cried profoundly; feeling like my mom was saying her final goodbye; like I was going away to die and will never be seen again. Like I was going to Frank’s house to go and fulfill my sister’s dream; like I was going to go and start my worst life, which will result to my death.
When it was time to go, Frank helped me to get into the car. My brothers came by the car to say their goodbye to me.
“Frank, take care of my sister ooh; she is our princess, so you must always treat her like one” My eldest brother said and then started having funny gist with Frank which I wasn’t interested to hear. Our second son came into the car and whispered to me: “Gee!” He called me for short; Like he always call me instead of Grace.
“You are married doesn’t mean you are no longer my sister. Always call on me anytime you need me; I’m always here for you; I got your back! You know right?”
His words gave me comfort. At least, if anything goes wrong, I have a brother I can call on. I assured myself.
My mother called on Kate to follow me to Frank’s house, for it is our custom that; if a lady gets married and about to follow her husband home, her younger sister would follow her, and stay for a day or two before going back. But Kate refused to follow me. She bluntly told my mother that she won’t follow me, because she didn’t support my marriage with Frank.
Her words hurt me and I wanted to break down and cry but my mother consoled me and made me follow Frank and his people home.
On our way, I prayed that Frank doesn’t turn out to be what Kate and I had dreamed him to be.
Soon we arrived his house and the driver, horned. The gate got opened and the driver drove in. All the people that accompanied him, including those that claimed to be his village people didn’t follow us to Frank house; they all stopped on the way; only the driver, driving us follow us to his house. When the driver drove into the compound and stopped and we got out of the car, I was surprised to see that the mansion we arrived at, was the same mansion in my dream; no difference. My heart began to beat. I have never visited Frank’s house before. Today was my first time seeing his house and it turned out to be the house in my dream.
I felt like running away; maybe run back to my parents house and tell them I don’t want this marriage anymore but a voice in me told me to go to his bedroom first and check if it’s the same bedroom in my dream, then I can make my decision.
