After Laura’s nanny left her room, Laura gave Louis a call.
He picked it up with immediate effect and the following conversation ensued.
“Hello darling . How are you doing?”
“I am doing great and you?”
“I am doing good . I called you earlier but your line wasn’t available.”
“Eiishh that must be network. Sorry about that.”
“It’s no problem. I just wanted to know if you’ve returned home.”
“Yes I have thank you. “
“You welcome. So have you taken a shower?”
“Nope I haven’t. I was discussing with mom.”
“Wow! Is your mom back?”
“No, not my biological mom. I am talking about my nanny silly.”

“Yeah my nanny is like a second mom to me. She filled the gap my mother left due to her busy schedules. I love her so much.”

Laura cut the call and went into the bathroom to take a shower.
After she was through showering in the bathroom she went into her room to get some sleep.
She was struggling to get her eyes closed when Kunle gave her a call.
She refused to pick it, instead she switched her phone off. She was afraid kunle would pop up the question again and since she lacked the right words to say it was better to avoid him.
The following day after Laura closed from work she waited for Louis.
She was worried when Louis didn’t come around or pick up her calls. She drove home bemused. When she returned home she informed her nanny she had not heard from Louis all day.
To worsen things he wasn’t picking up her calls. Her nanny patted her back and told her everything would be alright.
Sighing she went into her room.
She was reading a novel when a call came in. The line was unfamiliar.
She picked it up regardless.
“Hello.”
“Hello good evening . please am I speaking with Laura?”
The stranger responded.
“Yes you are, good evening.”
“Good evening Laura. I am afraid I have bad news.”
“Bad news? Please what happened? And who am I even speaking with?”
“Well you are speaking with Steve. I am Louis’s friend.”
“Oh Louis’s friend. Please what happened to louis I haven’t heard from him all day what could be the problem?”
“Nothing bad happened to Louis. Just that his younger sister (Lilian) was admitted in the hospital this morning. She wasn’t feeling well.”
“Oh! Is that why Louis hasn’t been picking my calls?”
“No, he left his phone at home while in a haste.”
“Okay please what’s the address of the hospital?”
“20 marcathy street off bricks estate .”
“Oops it isn’t far from here. I will be there in a jiffy.”
“No worries. I will inform him you are coming soon.”
“Alright can I talk to him a bit?”
“He is under tension right now. That’s why he asked me to speak to you myself.”
“Alright. I will be there soon.”
Louis’s friend cut the call and Laura went into her nanny’s room to Inform her of what had happened.
Her nanny offered to go with her but Laura refused. She didn’t want to put her under stress. She told her nanny to relax and ensured she took her evening drugs.
When Laura arrived at the hospital, she gave Louis a hug.
She spoke.
“Sorry baby. How is she now?”
“She’s getting better. So far she has been responding to treatment.”
“What’s the nature of her sickness?”
“It’s typhoid dear.”
“Oops. I pray she gets well soon.”
“I hope so she looks pale. Anyways I am glad you came over. I was so worried I forgot my phone at home. I had to ask Steve to put a call across to you. Lilian looked extremely pale this morning. Her body was so hot.”
“Wasn’t there any symptoms.”
“None. I didn’t notice any.”
“Don’t worry she will be fine.”
“Thanks honey.”
“I hope you have eaten?”
“I only ate doughnut this morning. I lost my appetite.”
“Oh! Let me get you some food outside then.”
“No don’t worry I will be fine.”
“I insist. Let me get you food outside, you must be starving.”
“Alright. Let’s go together then.”
“Okay.”
Laura and Louis informed Steve they were going outside to get food.
Steve nodded his head and went into Louis’s sister’s room to check up on her.
When he went in, she was sound asleep.
He smiled and went outside to sit back on the bench at the reception.
Thirty minutes later, Louis and Laura returned. Laura handed a plate of jollof rice and fish to Steve. They had eaten theirs at the restaurant.
Steve smiled and thanked her.
Laura checked the time on her wristwatch and texted her nanny she would come home a bit late. Louis had informed her earlier that his mom and dad would be coming to the hospital to pay Lilian a visit very soon.
“What about your younger brother?”
Laura had asked him.
Louis had replied he doubted his younger brother would come around, because of the nature of his job.
He also further explained they had both come to the hospital in the morning to admit Lilian.
Thirty minutes later, Louis’s parents arrived. Laura greeted them and they replied her in a welcoming tone.
Louis smiled and told his parents Lilian was asleep. He assured them she was responding to treatment, so she would be out of the hospital very soon.
The information made them excited.
Louis’s mother couldn’t stop staring at Laura. That made Laura felt shy.
“Young lady what’s your name?”
Louis’s mom asked.
“Laura.”
Laura replied.
“Wow! That’s Lilian’s second name.”
“Yeah. Louis told me already.”
“That’s cool. So who are you to my son? Are you his colleague at work or? …”
Louis’s mom clears throat.
Laura turned her face and stylishly looked at Louis. The satisfactory smile on Louis’s face showed he was enjoying the drama.
“I am..”
Laura was still trying to reply her, when Louis’s younger brother came in.
Louis stood up and gave him a hug.
He spoke.
“Nicole I didn’t know you would come. I thought you would have been exhausted from the stress and pressure at work .”
“Guy man you know how much I love Lilian. I couldn’t help but come here to check up on her.”
Laura felt uneased. She realized she had heard that voice somewhere.
And that name sounded familiar too.
“Oh no, it can’t be.”
She soliloquized.
She was still lost in her thoughts when Louis came forward to introduce his younger brother to her.
“Hi baby meet my younger brother.”
Louis beamed a smile at her.
Laura forced a smile and gave Nicole a handshake.
Now that he was closer, she recognized him.
How could she forget the guy that had sent her far in space. His smile his looks and everything about him remain unchanged.
Right in front of her was her ex lover (Nicodemus)
She couldn’t believe her eyes.
How would she tell Louis his younger brother was her ex lover in campus.
She breathed in heavily and shook her head. Louis’s mother who had noticed the look and the sudden silence from both the two spoke.
“What’s wrong. Have you guys met each other somewhere before?”
“No we haven’t.”
Nicodemus hastily replied.
He removed his hand from Laura’s and went to take a seat.
“Bro what did you call her again?”
Nicole asked.
“Dude I called her my babe. Any problem?”
“No probs bro. She’s pretty.”
Nicole winked.
“You can say that again.”
Laura stood up from the bench and set to leave .
Louis gave her a hug and winked at his mum.
“Well momma I heard the question you threw at her earlier. I am glad to let you know Laura is my babe. The reason why I smile a whole lot recently. I know this isn’t the right place or atmosphere, but I couldn’t help but make her known. Dad meet your soon to be daughter in law “
Louis turned at his dad.
Laura beamed a smile at Louis’s parent.
“Welcome dear . I hope you will pay us a visit soon In our mansion? We would be excited to see you again .”
“Thank you sir. I will do that soon. I need to go now, it’s getting late.”
“Sure go ahead.”
Louis’s parents replied at once.
Laura bid Nicole farewell but he pretended he didn’t hear her.
The scornful look on his face made her extremely worried.
“What thought could be running in his head now?”
